Penpodium

90.000 Kč

Penpodium is a sculptural glass relief composed of a repeating motif of human skulls—one of the most distinctive themes in Rony Plesl’s artistic practice. Here, the skull is not treated as a symbol of death, but rather as an archetype of human existence, memory, and the passage of time. The rhythmically layered motifs create a richly textured surface that is continuously transformed by light, revealing new details with every shift in perspective.

The object is created using the unique Vitrum Vivum technology, which makes it possible to capture exceptionally delicate modelling and the remarkable optical depth of glass. The transparent material lends the relief an unexpected sense of lightness, transforming a traditional motif into a contemporary work of art whose appearance evolves with every change in light.

Penpodium brings together the finest Czech glassmaking craftsmanship, contemporary sculpture, and powerful symbolism in a collector’s object that transcends the boundaries between design and fine art.

Author

Rony Plesl (*1965) is one of the Czech Republic’s leading contemporary artists, sculptors, designers, and educators. He was the first to recognize the artistic potential of the Vitrum Vivum technology and, together with Jiří Šín, pushed the boundaries of glass art into an entirely new dimension. His work is rooted in a profound understanding of art history, drawing inspiration from the geometry of the Italian Renaissance and the monumentality of the Baroque.
Plesl’s works are represented in public and private collections in the Czech Republic and abroad. They have been exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Venice Biennale, and Expo 2025 in Osaka.
